Sevilla have confirmed that Nigerian striker Akor Adams will miss the rest of the 2024/25 La Liga season due to a serious thigh injury.
The 25-year-old forward, who joined Sevilla from Montpellier in January for €5.5 million, sustained a rectus femoris muscle injury in his right thigh during the club’s recent 2-1 defeat to Atlético Madrid. Medical reports indicate that Adams will be sidelined for at least two months, effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.

Following his injury during the match against Atlético Madrid, Sevilla’s medical team issued a statement confirming the extent of the damage.
“Akor Adams will begin his recovery process this Wednesday,” the club noted, emphasizing that the Nigerian forward will not return before the season ends.
This development is a significant setback for both the player and the club as Sevilla continue to fight for La Liga survival.

Akor Adams was signed in January to solve Sevilla’s goalscoring issues, but his impact has been limited due to injuries. He made his debut on February 1 in a goalless draw against Getafe but picked up an injury shortly after, which kept him out for over five weeks.
Since returning to action, Adams has featured in just three more matches — against Athletic Bilbao, Real Betis, and Atlético Madrid — without scoring or assisting. His most recent outing against Atlético marked his only full 90-minute appearance for the club before the injury that has now ended his season.

Adams’ injury is another addition to Sevilla’s growing list of absentees. Fellow winter signing Rubén Vargas is also out for the season, while key players like Chidera Ejuke, Saúl Ñíguez, and centre-back Tanguy Nianzou remain sidelined with long-term issues.
These injuries have compounded the problems facing manager Xavi García Pimienta, who is already under immense pressure due to poor results. With a crucial clash against Valencia on the horizon, Sevilla are running out of options — and time.

Despite high expectations following his €5.5 million move from Ligue 1, Akor Adams has only played four La Liga games for Sevilla, starting once and making three appearances off the bench. He has yet to score or assist in Spain.
In contrast, the Nigerian forward was more productive during his time in France. For Montpellier, he scored 11 goals and contributed two assists in 47 Ligue 1 appearances, showcasing his potential as a powerful and athletic striker.
Implications for Sevilla’s Survival Hopes

Currently sitting just eight points above the relegation zone, Sevilla’s survival hopes have taken a hit. While results elsewhere, including a draw between Leganés and Osasuna, have worked in their favor, the margin for error is shrinking with each passing week.
Akor Adams was expected to lead the line and provide a goal threat in the season’s final stretch. His absence now puts more pressure on the remaining forwards, who have struggled for consistency throughout the campaign.

The Nigerian forward will now begin a comprehensive rehabilitation program as he aims to return to full fitness ahead of the 2025/26 season. The injury also comes as a setback for his international ambitions, as he was hoping to earn a recall to the Super Eagles squad ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and World Cup qualifiers.
Adams’ long-term future at Sevilla may now be under scrutiny. With the club’s La Liga status uncertain and his current injury history, the summer transfer window could bring changes.
Sevilla’s fight to avoid relegation has become even more difficult following the injury to Akor Adams. The Nigerian striker’s season-ending setback highlights the club’s ongoing struggles, both on and off the pitch. With several key players out and confidence low, the next few weeks will be crucial for the Andalusian side.
