How Christantus Uche Inspired Getafe to Equal PSG’s Incredible 2025 Away Win Record

Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche has played a crucial role in Getafe CF’s remarkable run of form on the road in 2025, helping the Spanish side match the sensational away win record set by French giants Paris Saint-Germain. Both teams now lead Europe’s top five leagues with six away victories each in the current calendar year.

According to Spanish publication Marca, Getafe and PSG are the only clubs in the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1 with six away wins so far this year. Getafe’s latest triumph – a dominant 4-0 victory over Real Valladolid on April 6 – not only maintained that impressive streak but also underlined the growing influence of Christantus Uche in José Bordalás’ team.

Uche: The Engine Behind Getafe’s Away Success

At just 21 years old, Christantus Uche has become a key figure for Getafe this season, particularly in away fixtures. The Owerri-born midfielder has featured in all six of Getafe’s La Liga away wins in 2025, contributing goals, assists, and consistent midfield control to drive the team forward.

Uche made an early impact in the year with an assist in the 2-1 win against Las Palmas in January. He followed it up with arguably one of his best performances in a Getafe shirt – registering a goal and an assist in a commanding 3-0 win over Real Sociedad.

Although he only played the first half in the narrow 1-0 victory at Alavés, Uche bounced back in style during the 2-1 win at Girona in February, opening the scoring and controlling the tempo from midfield.

After a relatively quiet display in the 1-0 defeat at Leganés, Uche returned to form in the next outing, providing a crucial assist in Getafe’s 2-1 win over Osasuna. But it was in the most recent clash against Real Valladolid where he stole the show, notching two assists and playing a pivotal role in a third goal during the 4-0 thrashing.

Getafe’s Historic Away Run in 2025

Getafe have played 10 away matches across all competitions in 2025 and emerged victorious in eight of them – a staggering 80% win rate. Their only two losses came in closely contested matches, further underlining the consistency of their performances on the road.

This hot streak has pushed Getafe to 11th place in La Liga, with the team now 11 points above the relegation zone. Remarkably, they also sit just nine points behind sixth-place Real Betis, giving fans hope of a potential late push for European qualification.

The recent 4-0 win over Valladolid was a historic one. It marked the first time since 2009 that Getafe scored four goals away from home – the last time being against Racing Santander under former manager Míchel.

Christantus Uche’s Breakout Season in La Liga

Uche has featured in 28 La Liga matches this season, starting 25 of them. He has scored three goals and provided five assists – strong numbers for a central midfielder playing in his debut top-flight campaign.

His La Liga debut came on August 20, 2024, against Athletic Club. At just 21 years and 88 days old, he marked his first appearance with a goal, immediately announcing himself as one to watch in Spanish football.

Uche’s creativity, work rate, and positional intelligence have made him one of the most important players in Bordalás’ system. Whether breaking up opposition play, dictating tempo, or providing the final pass, the Nigerian has delivered consistently.

What’s Next for Getafe and Uche?

Getafe’s next La Liga fixture is a home tie against Las Palmas on April 12. With the team flying high and their away form matching that of PSG, the goal will be to translate that same energy to their home performances.

For Uche, this run of form will only boost his stock, both in Spain and internationally. There is increasing chatter about a potential Super Eagles call-up, especially as Nigeria looks to build a new generation of midfield talent for upcoming Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers.

At just 21, Christantus Uche has time, talent, and form on his side. And if his performances so far in 2025 are anything to go by, he could soon become one of Nigeria’s top exports in European football.
